Topaze
The origins of the name of this beautiful crystal remain uncertain. Some authors attribute its origins to the Sanskrit word “topaze” which means fire.
Topaz comes in many colors: yellow, blue, pink, white, red, purple, green and even colorless, which remains the most common variety. Blue topaz is the most favored variety by jewelers. It remains rare in its natural state and treatments are often applied to achieve blue pigmentation.
Often light blue, called sky blue, topazes of a deeper blue such as Swiss Blue are most in fact colorless topazes subjected to irradiation and heat treatments. London Blue topaz, on the other hand, refers to dark blue topaz. The color of topaz is said to determine its properties. Blue topaz, for example, would facilitate dialogue, communication and listening to others.
